His shoulder hurt.
That was the only thing Teddy really knew at that point. He'd been able to scramble up after he fell - Okay, make that two things he knew - and glance around for Avise, only to see the steward holding her and calming the mare, while someone came over to him and ushered him to the gate. Things were a bit fuzzy in his recollection, although he hadn't blacked out - That was good. And he was walking, which was another good thing. Now they were bringing him over to the first-aid station, though, and someone pointed him to a chair and commanded him to 'sit'.
He did so, although not without protest. He had to go get Avise, but nobody was listening to him! They kept saying she was fine, and being brought back to the barn, so Teddy complied for the time being. It might also have been the teacher watching him like a hawk, though. That probably had something to do with it too. They said something about waiting for the school nurse, who was far more qualified than one expected at a normal school - But then again, this was a riding school. She had to be prepared for falls from horses occasionally, right?

Lottie was having a somewhat stressful day. But then again, that was only to be expected and, truth be told, she was rather enjoying it. It reminded her strongly of the many years that she'd spent in Casualty departments and ERs across the world in her younger days, although it had to be said that this was on a considerably less dramatic scale. And she sincerely hoped that that was set to continue, because she wasn't even slightly equipped to deal with some of the catastrophes which she'd seen in those days. No, this was more her level now, and she wasn't getting any younger. But then again, no one did.
Having just finished applying a plaster to a girl who'd cut her finger, the greying blonde glanced around at the sound of a worried voice. She sighed. She might have known that it was too good to last... "All right, all right, I'm coming." she snapped, shooing the girl away with one hand as she strode in the direction of the boy who she could see sitting on a chair. "Well then, mon ami, what have you done to yourself, hmm? Taken a tumble?" Seating herself next to the boy, she pulled out her box of tricks from under her chair. "Let's have a look at you!"

Teddy looked up as a blonde woman bustled over - The nurse? She seemed familiar, although he'd never really had a reason to talk to her before now. Her questions were a bit hard to follow - Couldn't she just ask in plain English? - but he nodded vaguely, "My horse didn't like the jump." He nodded as the woman said she was going to take a look, "Fine. Just don't expect me to move my arm too much." That didn't seem like a great idea.

The blonde raised an eyebrow. "So, you decided to jump it on your own, hmm?" she queried with a broad smile. "I'm no expert, but that doesn't sound like a recipe for success to me." With careful fingers, she slipped the boy's jacket down over his shoulder, and didn't need to go any further to tell that something was wrong here. "I'm guessing that's quite painful." Charlotte remarked wryly. "Is it all right if I take a look under your shirt?"

Teddy inclined his head, "I wouldn't say decided. But yes, I attempted it on my own. It didn't work out too well." He gritted his teeth as the nurse removed his jacket, and nodded tersely at her comment. As she asked about looking under his shirt, Teddy nodded, "That's fine." It would probably be necessary anyway, but it was going to hurt.

"I can see that." the Frenchwoman commented wryly, flexing her fingers and beginning the careful process of unbuttoning the boy's shirt. Pulling it to one side, she surveyed the scene of carnage beneath with a dispassionate glance and nodded, mostly to herself. Well, this was something that she had seen plenty of times before. "The good news is, you're going to live." she told him with an edge of humour in her voice. "Dislocated shoulder. No more riding for you today; I'll get someone to phone the hospital." Could she have done it herself? It was a possibility, but she'd really prefer not to. Giving the boy a nod, she stepped away and unclipped the radio handset from her belt. "Allo allo." she spoke into it, smiling to herself at the reference.

Running wasn't easy on grass and, Kitty had discovered, it was even more difficult when one was wearing a pair of long and somewhat stiff boots. But she was in a hurry, and she was damned if she was going to walk. Anyway, walking was for boring people! She'd left Pride in the hands of a small girl who didn't look particularly happy about it, and while he wasn't generally given to being disruptive, she wouldn't put it past him to cause a bit of mischief if he thought he could get away with it...
The first aid station came up slightly more quickly than she had expected, and the blonde veered sharply off to one side to avoid colliding with someone. It was just as well that she did, though, because in doing so, she actually managed to spot the person that she'd come looking for in the first place. And it was immediately apparent that he wasn't doing so well. Kitty was no expert, but she'd seen enough injuries over the years, and sustained a few herself, so that she was well aware of when an arm looked wrong. And that was plainly the case here.
"Teddy!" she exclaimed, homing in on the boy like an avenging angel. "God, are you OK?" Kitty's first instinct was to hug the boy, but, considering the look of his arm, the blonde was of the opinion that this was not a sensible idea just at present, and so she settled for planting a kiss full on his lips instead. Briskly, she stepped back and took in his general appearance. "Forgotten how to dress yourself?" she teased.

Teddy raised an eyebrow, "Really? I can't go get Avise onto the cross country course?" He had no intentions of doing that - Although he did feel bad about not being able to ride in the relay he'd signed up for.
He looked up as he heard his name, then forced a smile as he saw Kitty coming towards him, "No. But I'll live." He blinked in surprise at the kiss - although he appreciated the lack of hug - and then smiled weakly, "Yeah, something like that. In all the hurry it wasn't a priority." He paused, "How are your classes going? Is Pride doing good?"

"You'd better." the blonde returned with an uncharacteristically serious look in her blue eyes. God only knew what she'd do without Teddy around. She was just thankful that he'd broken his arm and not his neck, because it could all have been so much worse.
With an exaggerated sigh, she leaned forwards and began delicately buttoning his shirt up again. "Can't have you freezing to death." she joked, though there was clearly no chance of that in what the Irish girl regarded as the searing heat of an American summer. "It's going well! Except dressage, which was a nightmare, and cross country, where I slightly fell off..." She shrugged. "Could have been worse."

Teddy felt himself turning even redder as Kitty started buttoning up his shirt. Could this get any more embarrassing? Well, he'd have to walk around in a sling from the sound of it - It would get plenty embarrassing. What a great start to the summer. He listened as Kitty talked about her own rides, "Not you too?" He looked her over, "At least you seem to be in one piece. Are you alright?"

Kitty grinned as she fastened the last button. "Me? I'm fine. Probably be a bit sore in the morning, but nothing serious. Never mind about me, all I need is a hot bath. It's you who's managed to break himself." With a dramatic sigh, she took in the boy in front of her once more. "Well, looks like we won't be going riding together this summer." Not that they would have been in any case, of course... it was a long way across to Ireland.

Teddy nodded at Kitty's comment, although he made a note to check up on her after his arm was... Fixed. Whatever that ended up entailing. He wasn't exactly at a point where he could worry too much about her, his head was still fuzzy. "I'll hopefully be fixed up by the time you get back, though! And it's as good an excuse as any to teach Thyme verbal cues." The gelding could work off of leg signals, technically, too. But reins were helpful. He hadn't had to ride without them in a long time.

"You'd better be fixed, Mallon," Kitty threatened. There was no way in hell that she was likely to let him forget about this- in fact, she was probably still going to be reminding him of it in ten years' time, because the fact that he'd managed to break himself over a showjumping course, of all things, was something that the blonde was going to find just a little amusing, at least once she'd got over the initial combination of panic, paranoia and stress. "I'm not going to spend my summer without you." Not all of it, anyway.

Teddy managed a weak chuckle, "You're a tough lady, Kitty." He glanced around, wondering what the plan was, and where the nurse had disappeared off to. The pain was starting to get to him. He raised an eyebrow at Kitty's commentary, "Oh, just the boring part where I can't do anything?" She had been planning on going home, they'd discussed that plan already. This hadn't exactly been planned, though.

"Nah," Kitty returned equably, tugging irritably at her hairnet to send long blonde locks tumbling down over her shoulders. "It's just easy to threaten you." 'Tough' was not a description which the Irish girl would ever have dreamed of applying to herself, and it certainly wasn't one that she heard often from other people. "Mmhm. Just the boring bit. I'll make sure to get back in plenty of time for the fun bit."
