The weather hadn't been the best for doing anything, but Seth knew that Hoot was going out of his mind, being cooped in the arena so much, and while he'd rather head out on one of the other trails, it was the Green Hill trails that Seth turned the Friesian Sporthorse toward. He figured that at least this way, if the horse spazed out, they weren't likely to slide down a cliff or into the river.
He kept his hands firm, yet gentle on the reins, unsure if it was the horse's tension he could feel or his own. He'd been on campus for too long now, and felt the need to get something done, really make his mark before the end of the year... so he had four months to plan something, but what? ""

Elijah had spent the past three months in an arena, or doing homework. At least, it felt that way. He was finally coming to terms with Nav's 'extra gears'. He'd spent some time reading about the breed, and had even contacted a few breeders for more information. Now, he could somewhat proficiently cue the gelding to perform his extra gaits, and finally felt like the time had come to try them out in more exciting environs.
But not too exciting, so they headed for the Green Hill Trail. He let the gelding walk for a little bit, then cued Nav for a running walk. He had to admit, it was a very comfortable ride. Not great for showing, but still. He couldn't be too mad at the horse. As they moved along, he realized they were approaching another horse and rider and slowed the gelding again before he called out, "Behind!"

Seth's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of another voice, which was a good thing, because he hadn't heard the horse approaching, and it seemed that Hoot was either half asleep or making plans of his own, because he hadn't alerted his rider either. "Greetings." He greeted with a smile over his shoulder, encouraging his gelding to the side slightly so they weren't taking up the whole path, as they had been riding down the middle. "Good day to be out and about." At least it wasn't raining.

Eli grinned, "Greetings yourself." Strange way to say hello, but he liked it! He let Nav speed up his walk a bit to get them alongside the other horse and rider, although he left some space between the two horses - No need to provoke any animosity should either horse take a dislike. "It is. And all the better because there's no classes to interfere." He couldn't remember seeing the boy in his classes, but that didn't mean anything, "I'm Eli."

Seth tuttered to Hoot, as the gelding's ears flattened when the other horse rode up beside them; though after a quick glancing assessment of the the other gelding, Hoot seemed to chill out and one ear flicked forward again as he snorted a greeting to the Morgan. "I could accede to that." He replied with a grin. "I'm Seth." The boy looked vaguely familiar, and was cute enough that he'd know Eli by sight if they shared a number of classes, but right now he was pulling up a blank - and hating himself for it.
"Hoot was getting a little stale of being in the arena, so I figured that at least with this trail, he's not as likely to kill me if he decides to play up." And he was only half joking there too, even though the Sport Horse seemed calm enough at the moment
