Margaret Lewis walked into her art classroom excited to teach the class already. She had big plans for this class and hoped her students would like all the ideas she has been thinking of. The art room she had been given was perfect because it wasn't just a boring classroom. She had requested black tables which could hold up to five students per a table because she though it was best to get inspiration from other artist. The sharing of tables could help students influence each other by giving suggestions on how to improve their art or what they should try. She quickly went up to the chalkboard that was near the back of the room and began to write in a cursive.

Welcome to Art I!
As you enter the room please feel free to sit where ever you want. Before we began today I would like you all to answer the following questions. Remember for these question there is not right or wrong answer! This is just for me to get to know you a bit better and your creative ways.

1.) What does art mean to you?
2.) List some of your favorite Mediums. It can be Drawing, painting or even photography!
3.) List some of your least favorite Mediums.
4.) Finally what do you want to learn in art? Do you want to draw people better or learn to paint?

Once finished with the writing she strolled over to her desk and took a seat as she waited for her students to file in. She messed with her papers trying to keep herself occupied for the last fifteen minutes before the bell would ring which would allow her to start up her class for the day. Art was much more to her then a simple way to pass time and she hope she all her students would either know this or learn to know this. Art had helped her express herself when she was younger and she was ready to teach her class everything and anything.

Classroom Setup

Torsten hurried down the hall, slipping into his art classroom with an eager grin on his face. The teen loved art, loved drawing and painting and just about everything associated with it. Entering the room, he didn't pause or stop to greet the teacher until he was sitting at one of the desks, the one closest to the teacher's desk. It was only after he'd pulled out a notebook and was halfway throuigh copying down what was on the board that he stopped, remembering the teacher, and looked up with a half-smile, "Hello ma'am!" He chirped cheerfully, giving the woman at the front of the room a quick wave before going right back to writing. 

1. What does Art mean to you?
        Art is a way of expressing yourself. Through art, you can let yourself go and forget about the rest of the world... at least until the bell rings. Art can be whatever you want it to be. It can be a way to relax, a way to cope with pain or guilt, a way to speak to people... Art is, at the end, just art. It's emotions and expressions.


2. List some of your favorite Mediums.
        I love painting, personally! There's something soothing about throwing paint on a canvas or blank wall and watching it come alive. Sketching and drawing are also quite fun, but nothing beats painting. I enjoy abstract art in any form, not only is it fun to create, it's easy to put emotion into. 


3. List some of your least favorite Mediums.
        I really don't like using Charcoal. It's just too messy.


4. What do you want to learn in Art?
        I'd like to learn to draw in a more realistic style. I'm pretty good at drawing in an 'anime' style, but I have trouble with realism. I'd also like to learn more about Art History.


Finished writing, Tori sat back and studied the classroom, feeling not a bit self-conscious at being the first one in the room aside from the teacher.

    Rose hurried to her art class, eager to work in the creative environment once more. There was a new teacher, which would be interesting, but hopefully the class would stay one of her favorites. Slipping in the door, she found a seat at one of the empty tables near to the one that the other present student was at and, seeing that there was writing on the board, pulled out a notebook. After smiling at the teacher, she got to work answering the questions in her notebook. 


i. What does art mean to you?
-For me, art is a way of expressing myself in the best way possible. I use it to say what I feel when I cannot find the words, and let out my emotions. It is a way to calm myself down when distressed, and express my thoughts.


ii. List some of your favorite mediums.
-My favorite mediums are watercolors, pastels, and pen and ink. 


iii. List some of your least favorite mediums.
-My least favorite mediums are digital art and ceramics.


iv.What do you want to learn in art?
-I would like to learn to draw people better, especially anatomy. I find that I can draw objects well, but I find trouble with drawing people, especially those in motion.

Olivia held her Nikon's case protectively to her chest as she made her way towards the Art classroom. She didn't usually bring the camera with her to class, but since they would be starting, she wanted to have it with her. Her laptop was also in her backpack, as was one of the external hard drives that her father had given her, which held her collection of decent photos.

Entering the classroom, she glanced around, nodding at the teacher before she skimmed over the words written on the board. Nothing surprising there, but she moved to find a seat, keeping her space from the other two students. Once seated, she set her camera bag on the desk before pulling out a brand new notebook and a pen.

1.) What does art mean to you?
Art is a way of transferring a memory to permanence, through interpretation of the moment.

2.) List some of your favorite Mediums. It can be Drawing, painting or even photography!
Photography!

3.) List some of your least favorite Mediums.
Pastels

4.) Finally what do you want to learn in art? Do you want to draw people better or learn to paint?
I would love to learn to paint, because I'm not very artistic in that sense.

Setting her pen down, she glanced up at the teacher, waiting for further instructions.

John wasn't sure why he'd signed up for the art class. It was doubtful that they'd cover a lot of the things that he enjoyed, but then, perhaps he would find something new to amuse him, which would be worth it. As he entered, he greeted the teacher with a simple "Good morning," before turning his attention to the board. As they were allowed to choose their own seats, he chose one towards the edge of the class, not really counting any of the three students already present as his friends.

After pulling out a binder, which held a fair amount of looseleaf paper, he took a moment to dig through his backpack, trying to find a pencil. Finally, he found one, and sat up to look at the questions that they were being asked to answer.

1) Art is a way to relax and transfer a little bit of my state of mind onto paper for future reference.

2) My favourite medium would have to be pencil. I love the simplicity of sketching, especially landscapes.

3) My least favourite medium is pen, because I tend to be too quick and smear it.

4) I would love to learn more about painting in general, just adding colour to my pieces.

    Becca rushed to her art class, a little concerned that she was going to be late. She'd been beyond stressed lately, and frankly, all that she really wanted to do was go see her horses, but hopefully this class would be able to help calm her down. Flying in the door, she breathed in relief as she saw that she was on time and dropped into the closest seat, breathing a little heavily. Once she caught her breath, she pulled out her notebook and a pen and began to answer the questions on the chalkboard in her spiky handwriting. 

1. What does art mean to you?
- I use art as a way to relief stress and calm down when I am distressed. It's a good way to even out my feelings and get my mind off of something if necessary. 

2. List some of your favorite mediums.
- I like painting with acrylics and using ink to create celtic knot designs. I also like sketching and papercutting.

3. List some of your least favorite mediums.
- I do not like using watercolors.

4. What do you want to learn in art?
- I want to learn to stray more from what I am comfortable doing. I have gotten into the habit of creating similar images in various mediums, or sticking within a certain range of mediums, but I would like to branch out a bit.

Zak zoomed to his art class. He was looking forward to art as he loved to draw and paint. He entered the room with a smile on his face and sat down at the desk which was not far from the teachers desk he gave a small smile to the teacher before sitting down. He sat down and took out his notebook and pencil and started to write the answers to the questions.

1. What does art mean to you?

Art is the way of expressing myself. I feel very relaxed when doing art as you shut off the world around you. It lets you express yourself rather than just talking and writing things down.

2. List some of your favourite mediums

My favourite mediums are possibly sketching pencils and of course paint. I adore paint and I don't care if I am quite messy with paint because my paintings are always neat.

3. Least favourite

 My least favourite medium is charcoal is it not as accurate and is way messier than painting.

4. What do you want to learn in art?

  I want to learn about art history and I also want to make my work look more realistic.

Margaret glanced over at the clock just as the tardy bell had rung. Picking up a stack of papers that held class rules, and information on the class she got out of her seat and up to the front of the classroom.

”Welcome to Art class everyone! I’m Miss. Lewis and of course I will be your art teacher this year. So as many of you finish up answering the questions I bet your wondering why I’m making you do something so boring. Well I actually like to do what you guys want to do. For the rest of the year except for this week I will be going off of your slips of paper and basing art lessons around them. So at the end of the class period if you could turn those in that would be great! I’m going to pass these papers out, and you can look over them after I explain the first project for the year.” She explain with an enthusiastic tone hoping to get her class excited for the year. She then began to pass out the papers as she explained what their first project would be.

”To start the year off I thought we should do some scratch boards! I, quite enjoy using scratch boards as they tend to focus more on details of your subject. As far as what you can do I encourage animals, landscapes, and people with some sort of background, but you can do whatever subject you prefer. Today I would like to get a subject picked, a drawing of the subject on any kind of paper and then transferred over onto some tracing paper. The second day of art class I would love to get the tracing done on the scratch board by applying it on to the board and re-tracing over it. This will cause an indent and will allow you to use the scratching tools with much more ease.” She finished up as she ended up back in the front of the classroom once again with a grin still on her face.

”I will be doing a demonstration on the second class day showing you how to transfer everything over.” She ended off with that note as her eyes glanced over her class trying to see if anyone was confused. ”One last note before I let you go is that if anyone wants to come in after school or during lunch to work on projects or independent projects not part of the class is welcomed too. Since we only have two days out of the week to Art I understand I'm really cramming done projects to get done. Hopefully when we do the projects you want we can extend more time to it. Even so if you do want to come in just let me know before hand. Questions?”
