Phillip leaned back in his seat as the bell rang. The students from his algebra one class packed up and headed to their next class. Though he loved teaching, it was an acquired way of life, being ready for class and for the students. It was his last class of the day and then he had the rest of it off. Luckily since it was the first time for his classes he hadn't received any work that he needed to grade and he could head back to his apartment and relax.
But of course he needed to get through this last class, he was happy that he ended with a higher math class because it made him glad to be a math teacher as he saw some of these students start in pre-algebra and now they were here in the last algebra the academy had to offer, next year they would be heading to an even higher math if they so chose or graduating which made him feel like he had accomplished something.
Phillip stood from his chair and erased the board from the previous class and uncapped an expo marker once again and wrote Imaginary Numbers. A lot of students got scared because how did you work with something that was imaginary, though that was true, it was not entirely true, especially when dealing with imaginary numbers. He put the marker back on the tray and turned to face the class.
"Welcome everyone, I'm Mr. Mackenzie, Mr. Mack, Mr. M, whichever floats your boat, now if you are here for Algebra Two you are indeed in the correct classroom. We will be starting today with imaginary numbers. Now before I get an eye roll from all of you does anyone have any previous knowledge on this subject?" Phillip liked to know what he was working with when he started a lesson, some students came from a more in depth high school class and some came from his algebra one class from last year, regardless he needed to know where all of his students stood.
