Rich and he knows it. Khalid comes from royalty, though an unlucky stroke of fate left him without a title. In his world, money solves everything, and he is not afraid to flaunt it. Spending time in America has toned down some of his irresonsible habits and opened his mind, but there's no doubt he's Muslim and holds strongly to his beliefs. The boy has no problem bragging about his horses and falcon and laments the luxury of his life in Qatar. However, as the ripples of international politics strikes closer to home, he could use a few friends to get him through. His strong personality and love for attention will no doubt garner him some enemies particularly when it comes to his immense hatred for all things canine. He values money and social standing above all else and picks his friends based on class.
Khalid is always willing to take on a few new allies, but he would rather only associate with the rich and elite. He openly snubs those of a poorer background. More enemies for him are more than welcome, and he is not above playing pranks and making life just a little more interesting in the process. He doesn't think of the consequences and would sooner jump into trouble head first and throw money at it to get out. Life is a game that should be enjoyed for as long as possible. He doesn't care what his family or anyone else thinks of his antics.
Ashley "Drew" Andrew Stephens
Junior - Red House - Red Willow Barn (Remi)
Junior - Red House - Red Willow Barn (Remi)
Drew is and always has been the odd one out. He's passionate about science and learning and was pushed hard by parents to be the best in everything. He doesn't have friends, only networking contacts. He came to Blue Ridge to escape his old school and harrassment by fellow students. As much as he tries to act like an adult, the pressure to be perfect clearly has gotten to him. His only real friend is his pet budgerigar, Sininen. Drew's intelligence and robotic personality in class may alienate him from his classmates. He doesn't connect well with people his own age.
He could use some people who share his passion for learning and can keep up with detailed conversations about engineering or other STEM disciplines. He's not likely to make enemies, though he does see his classmates as competition for the highest grade. He would also appreciate meeting other artists or lovers of classic literature.
Natalie "Nat" Irena Popvic
Freshman - Green House - White Oak Barn (Dixie)
Freshman - Green House - White Oak Barn (Dixie)
Natalie is that girl who wants to be popular despite her weird interests. She's a Western rider with pet frogs, though she'll deny both if she thinks it'll win her one more person to call a friend. What she doesn't realize is that in her fight to be likeable, she's probably driving people away. Close friends are hard to comeby, and Natalie is sort of person who judges her worth based on how many Facebook friends she has. At heart, she's an animal lover and loves horses. While not likely to make true enemies, Natalie's try-hard approach to friend making will no doubt earn her a poor reputation in the eyes of others especially once her real colors start to show through.
She could use a friend or two who is willing to accept her for who she is and boost her confidence. Growing up overshadowed by a more talented younger sister has left its mark on Natalie's self esteem. She's also happy to connect with fellow racers even though her horse will never be championship material.
Ingrid Skoglund
Freshman- Red House - Red Willow Barn (Tana)
Freshman- Red House - Red Willow Barn (Tana)
Ingrid has a very Norwegian way of making friends. She's slow to warm up to people, but those she trusts, she trusts with her life. On the outside, she likes to keep up an icy personality. It's partly due to loneliness at being so far away from home and partly to do with her normal personality. She's not extremely friendly by a long shot, and her mind is never more than a couple thoughts away from athletics. She would love to have a running buddy or even someone who can appreciate the great outdoors. However, her cold exterior is likely to repulse some people. She has no problem dropping snide remarks, being snarky, and acting like being alive is boring. Ingrid isn't as focused on being the best rider around, and she's far happier riding her Fjord horse than upgrading to a warmblood. However, her biggest fear is word getting out that she's the only child of a millionaire. In her eyes, money and social status are meaningless. She doesn't care about the financial standing of her friends, and she doesn't want anyone to look at her differently because of her parents.
She could definitely do with some friends who share her ideals and interests. At heart, Ingrid is a biathlon girl. Her off days will most likely earn her the ire of her peers, though she tries to not let that get to her. Though, she is certainly not above annoying people just because she feels like it. A trail riding partner would also be welcome as Ingrid loves spending time exploring nature with her Fjord horse. She loves languages and would be glad to teach others a bit of Norwegian or even get a speaking buddy for German and French.
Abigail "Gail" Elizabeth Sorenson-Faulkner
Hunter/Jumper Instructor - Brown Ribbon Apartments - White Oak Barn (Syrah), Red Willow Barn (Rabbit)
Hunter/Jumper Instructor - Brown Ribbon Apartments - White Oak Barn (Syrah), Red Willow Barn (Rabbit)
Gail is warm and friendly and loves people. She's easy to get along with, though it's clear that she loves horses and everything that comes with them. As a former champion with a shot at joining the USET, Gail's name is known to those in the hunter/jumper world. However, retiring from competing and learning to push through the worst life can throw has given Gail a better appreciation for the people she meets and her outlook on life. She doesn't want her students to go through the same challenges as her, and is a strong proponent of getting a good education past high school. Though Gail has undoubtedly picked up a few rivals from her years in the show circuit, she sees all her competitors as opportunities for learning. With guidance from her husband, Gail hopes to use her expertise to shape the next batch of champion riders.
Her work ethic sometimes means that she overburdens herself with responsibilities. Most days are spent at the barn, riding Rabbit, or training Syrah. For all her friendliness, Gail tries to maintain the teacher-student relationship and not get too involved in their lives. However, she's always glad to meet new faces and make some friends among the faculty.
Roderick "Rod" Anthony Faulkner
Geometry Teacher - Brown Ribbon Apartments
Geometry Teacher - Brown Ribbon Apartments
Where Gail is an extrovert, Rod is most definitely more introverted. Quieter and more reserved, he's much happier taking the time to enjoy the little perks of life. He was severely injured in a boating accident, and he still hasn't come to terms with the way his injuries affect himself and those around him. He wants nothing more than to be totally independent as impossible as that may be. Not being able to swim again has given him the most grief, so he took up coaching to compensate. At Blue Ridge, he feels a little out of place given his inability to ride, but he enjoys working with students and seeing Gail happy. He would go to the ends of the earth for her and has no interest in any other woman.
Rod's injuries prevent him from getting out as much, and he loves curling up alone with a good book. However, he would be quite happy for some other male company. Rod is a good listener, and he understands hardship better than most. Even though he knows his limitations, that doesn't stop him from trying to be independent, and sometimes, he ends up in quite a bit of trouble. He'll grudgingly accept help when it's offered, but he wants to be seen as an independent adult, not a helpless invalid.
